Optimize Your Router for Peak Performance

For the best performance of your West Wind Wireless internet, it's crucial to position the router effectively within your space. Follow these guidelines to maximize your router’s connectivity and overall network efficiency:

  1. Strategic Placement Near Windows or Higher Elevations: Position your West Wind Wireless router close to a window or in an elevated area, ideally on an upper floor. This placement enhances the router's ability to receive and transmit signals more efficiently, boosting your connection strength.
  2. Avoid Metal Barriers: Keep the router away from metal objects and structures, as these can significantly disrupt wireless signal flow, leading to poorer connection quality. Examples of these types of obstructions could be metal flag poles, TV antennas, satellite dishes, metal scaffolds, etc.
  3. Protect from Sunlight: Ensure your West Wind Wireless router is not placed in direct sunlight. Continuous exposure to direct sunlight can degrade the router’s functionality, cause over-heating issues, and reduce its lifespan. We realize this is a little counter-intuitive to the advice of placing it next to a window for clear line of sight communications, but it is worth considering when troubleshooting chronic issues.
  4. Distance from Electronic Interference: To prevent signal interference, maintain a good distance between your router and devices that could cause disruptions. These include:

By following these positioning tips, you'll ensure that your West Wind Wireless router operates at its best, maintaining a strong and stable connection throughout your home or office.

Resetting the Router

There are two ways to reset a West Wind Wireless router:

1. Power Cycling

Pull the power plug from either the device or the wall for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait 5 full minutes for the router to restart, run diagnostic checks, synchronize with backend systems, and establish a cellular connection. Then try reconnecting to the WiFi network.

2. Hard Reset

Please DO NOT hard reset your router without first talking with a member of the Support Team. Doing so will cause your router lose all of its settings and to revert to a factory state. This means that your WiFi network name will change and any device that's ever been connected will need to be reconnected to the network. It is very cumbersome and time consuming.

My Antennas are Loose!

Sometimes the antennas can become loose. You can tigthen them up by removing the antenna first, then very gently use a 5/16" or 8mm wrench or socket to re-tighten the nut on the router. Be sure not to over-tighten and damage the connectors.

Will my service really work when I'm traveling around the USA?

Yes, our routers and service are designed to operate on any public cellular networks in the United States. Anywhere you have a signal you will have internet!
